FleetOptics offers a certified sustainable delivery service.

On the eve of Black Friday and the holiday season, Coop Carbone is proud to announce that FleetOptics is joining the Sustainable Delivery Certification program marking a significant first step for the program across Canada.

“The addition of these new certified services demonstrates our commitment to expanding access to more sustainable last-mile delivery practices, not only in Quebec, but elsewhere in Canada as well. Focusing on the climate impact of the last mile is important: up to 50% of GHGs are linked to this very complex and costly stage,” says Pauline Robert, Coop Carbone’s Director of Carbon Markets and GHG Management.

During Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2023, online sales reached $70.9 billion worldwide, an increase of 8% over the previous year, according to a study by Salesforce. With the average shopping basket estimated at $50, this means that around 1.4 billion packages are shipped worldwide during this shopping period.

A first breakthrough outside Quebec
Certification now extends to Ontario and British Columbia, thanks to FleetOptics, a national provider that has certified its delivery services in the Toronto and Vancouver metropolitan areas.

“During high-consumption periods such as the Holidays, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, home delivery costs society dearly: congestion, pollution, noise, accidents and GHGs represent approximately $100 per day per vehicle, or $200,000 daily for Montrealers. At a time when 68% of Quebecers attach importance to carbon-neutral delivery, it’s essential to support the sustainable practices put in place by certain companies,” says Caroline Marie, Strategic Advisor and Head of the Sustainable Logistics program at Coop Carbone.

Good for the economy, society and the environment
Made possible through the financial support of the Quebec government’s MobilisActions financial assistance program for activities promoting sustainable mobility, and powered by Coop Carbone, Sustainable Delivery Certification ensures that parcel delivery services, from the last warehouse to the final destination, meet strict sustainability standards. Transport companies with certified services undertake to comply with rigorous specifications involving:

  • A quality delivery service for local businesses and their customers while optimizing resources such as vehicles, land and warehouses
  • Positive spin-offs for all stakeholders, thanks to good working conditions for delivery teams and road safety training
  • A reduction in noise pollution, waste and greenhouse gas emissions, thanks in large part to the use of zero-emission vehicles and cargo bikes
